These days, people are more aware than ever about the types of products they use and the effects they can have on your health. And there’s a lot to be concerned about – we’re constantly being flooded with new information about possible risks associated with products we come into contact with every day. People are rightly concerned about the safety of the air we breathe, the foods we eat, and the products we use around the home.
Here in Miami, Dr. Herrmann of Assure a Smile Dentistry is deeply concerned about the safety and quality of the materials he uses to restore your smile. As a holistic dentist, Dr. Herrmann strives to do everything he can to enhance the overall health of our patients. That’s why we only use biocompatible materials in our restorations. And you can rest assured that there’s absolutely no metal in any of the restorations we provide.
Most dental implants are held in place with titanium fixtures. But in keeping with our metal-free policy, we exclusively feature ultra-biocompatible all-ceramic zirconia dental implants from Z Systems and Zeramax. That way, we can avoid titanium fixtures which have a number of drawbacks.
The fixture is the section of the implant which secures it to your jawbone. Unfortunately, there are many disadvantages to using titanium fixtures. For example, the bacteria which causes gum disease accumulates more rapidly on titanium-secured implants than it does on zirconia implants. Another concern is that some patients have allergies to titanium which could cause a reaction that threatens the viability of the implants.
A further health issue is that, like all types of metal restorations, titanium is subject to corrosion, which could diminish its structural integrity. Also, metal restorations conduct electricity which can interfere with with the natural meridian pathways in your body.
There are esthetic problems with titanium-secured implants as well. They commonly cause a grey shadow that’s visible through the implant crown. Titanium fixtures can also cause discoloration of your gums. This can be particularly noticeable with front-teeth implants.
All-ceramic zirconia implants are a solid, healthy, and aesthetically pleasing alternative to titanium-secured implants. Ceramic implants have met stringent FDA requirements since 2007. There are several advantages to using zirconia implants:
Dr. Herrmann is completely dedicated to providing holistic treatment. And that means he will never leave any metal restorations inside your body. Give us a call today to arrange your consultation and find out what our metal-free implants can do for your smile.
