If you suffer from gaps in your smile caused by missing teeth, then choosing the right smile restoration is an important decision. As you learn about your options, the benefits of dental implants become more apparent. Dental implants are a significant investment in your health. They’ll improve your smile and your self-confidence and make eating fun again.
Dr. Herrmann and our staff have assembled this list of Frequently Asked Questions we hear from our clients to help you make an informed decision. Please give us a call if you have any additional questions. We’ll be happy to answer your questions about dental implants and Dr. Herrmann’s commitment to non-toxic, metal-free restorative dentistry.
As part of our commitment to holistic dentistry here at Assure a Smile, we don’t use any type of metal in our restorations, and that includes our dental implants. Many dentists use implants that are secured with titanium fixtures. But we don’t feel comfortable using titanium fixtures because titanium is subject to corrosion, it conducts heat and electricity, and because some patients are allergic to titanium. There are also esthetic concerns with titanium which can cause a visible grey shadow on the implant.
At Assure a Smile, we proudly feature all-ceramic zirconia implants from Zeramax and Z Systems. Zirconia implants are metal-free, they’ll never corrode, they don’t conduct heat or electricity, and they’re fully biocompatible. Plus, zirconia implants are completely white — that means no metallic hue will ever distort the color of your implants.
There will be some swelling and discomfort for a few days following the surgical placement of your implant fixture. This is a minor medical procedure that’s performed by Dr. Herrmann right here in our office. You’ll be provided you with comprehensive aftercare instructions by our staff regarding what to expect during your recovery. We’re just a phone call away if you have any questions or concerns about any aspect of the implant process.
Patients who have worn dentures for a number of years might have experienced deterioration of the jawbone (resorption) and this can create complications as far as the dental implant process is concerned. Fortunately, Dr. Herrmann can treat this condition using bone grafts, which allows many patients who are suffering from resorption to become good candidates for dental implants. The best way to find out what your options are is to meet with Dr. Herrmann.
Dental implants are a durable and attractive alternative to dentures. When you meet with Dr. Herrmann for your free consultation, he’ll perform a complete dental examination. This will allow him to fully review your situation so he can go over your treatment options.
Yes. But if your son or daughter is under the age of 18, then their body probably isn’t fully developed, making it medically inadvisable to get dental implants at this time. Everyone matures at their own rate, so it’s best to consult with Dr. Herrmann about the best time for your son or daughter to begin the implant process.
Gum disease is a condition that requires treatment before a patient begins the implant process. The good news is that Dr. Herrmann features a number of effective treatments for gum disease. During your free consultation, he’ll assess the condition of your smile and recommend supplemental procedures that might be required to prepare you for the dental implant process.
